FAQ

What are London Stock Exchange trading hours, and how do they map to UTC?
The regular session runs 08:00–16:30 London time. London observes daylight saving: in summer (BST, late March to late October) the local time is UTC+1, and in winter (GMT) it is UTC+0. So in summer the session is 07:00–15:30 UTC, and in winter it is 08:00–16:30 UTC.
How do GMT and BST switch, and does it affect the hours?
The UK uses Greenwich Mean Time (GMT, UTC+0) in winter, switches to British Summer Time (BST, UTC+1) on the last Sunday of March, and switches back on the last Sunday of October. The exchange’s local open and close (08:00–16:30) stay the same, but the UTC mapping shifts by one hour, so watch the conversion around the March and October changeovers.
Are UK bank-holiday closures the same as other markets?
No. The UK’s distinctive “bank holiday” system closes the market on days in May and late August when US and Chinese markets may still trade. The UK also closes for two days at Christmas and Boxing Day (December 26), a fairly distinctive arrangement among Western markets.
