1

Install & launch

Windows: run the .exe installer. macOS: drag the app from the .dmg into Applications.

2

Sign in with email

First launch opens the sign-in window. Enter your email; we send a one-time link. New accounts are created automatically and start on the free tier.

3

Configure data sources

In Settings → Data sources, start with Yahoo Finance (no API key required). For FRED macro data, generate a free key at fred.stlouisfed.org. Tushare is available if you need China A-share / HK / futures.

The free tier covers basic exploration. For full data sources, local API and export capability, purchase a V1 license at /pricing.

Troubleshooting

Install issues

These come up regularly — usually solvable in 30 seconds.

Windows shows "Windows protected your PC" and refuses to run the installer
This is SmartScreen protecting against installers without an Extended Validation code-signing certificate. Click "More info" → "Run anyway". Once enough installs accumulate reputation, the warning disappears.
macOS says "cannot verify the developer"
System Settings → Privacy & Security → scroll to the bottom and click "Open Anyway". Or in Terminal: `xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Rethink\ Data.app`
Does Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) work natively?
Yes, the macOS DMG is a universal binary supporting both Intel and Apple Silicon. The OS picks the right architecture automatically.
The download link is slow or blocked
Make sure your network can reach quantdatafetch.com. Some corporate / campus networks block .exe / .dmg downloads — try a different network (home Wi-Fi, mobile hotspot) if so.
App installs but crashes on launch
Send the client logs to support. Windows logs live in `%APPDATA%/Quant Data Fetch/logs/`, macOS in `~/Library/Application Support/Quant Data Fetch/logs/`. Include your OS version and the last few lines of any error log.

Still have questions?

Is this a subscription?
No. It is a one-time purchase that grants permanent use of the current major version (V1), including every V1.x update and any new data source we add within V1. When we release V2 in the future, current users will receive a discounted upgrade offer — never the full price again.
What happens if I switch computers?
You can use the same account on up to 2 devices simultaneously (Windows / macOS in any combination). To switch devices, simply revoke the old one from the Device Management page and sign in on the new one.
Can I try before I buy?
Yes — download the free version of the client to evaluate. Most data features require an account; sign in with your email to activate.
